Disadvantages of chemical treatments for Poultry Red Mite


  • Available treament typically involves the use of toxic chemicals known as Acaricides or Miticides

  • Acaricides are toxic for Eggs, Poultry and Humans

  • Acaridices are also environmentally hazardous, complex & expensive

  • Treatment with acaricides usually requires emptying of the facility

  • Application using spray treatments must be performed with high pressure and sufficient force to penetrate mite's hiding places.

  • Facility must be cleaned thoroughly to remove residuals

  • With repeated use, poultry red mite develop resistance to acaricides and their effectiveness decreases, requiring higher dosages
